My bio

I grew up in the Seattle/Redmond/Duvall region. After graduation, I traveled to Paris, France with an exchange program for a year. Life in Paris was so compelling that I decided to stay. In 1989, I graduated from the American University of Paris with a B.A. in Comparative Literature. When I returned to the U.S. in 1992, I pursued a teaching certificate at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. My 17-year career as an educator has taken me to many remarkable places. I taught English for two years in Alaska Native villages in SE Alaska, then moved to Seattle to teach at a specialized public secondary school serving students who moved to the U.S. from all parts of the world. In 2003, I moved to the Los Angeles area and became a HS French instructor in a community near Compton. Upon returning to Washington state, I worked as a school librarian in Wenatchee for five years, and taught social studies at Chelan Middle School for one year. I now teach English language classes at Brewster Middle/High School. My husband and I live in the Methow Valley, where we enjoy cycling, volunteering, gardening, and raising chickens.

My statement as a candidate

In my opinion, good governance requires good communication. In addition to listening to the views of others, elected officials need an educator’s expertise in presenting ideas, options, and potential outcomes to voters. My goals for communities within the 12th LD include strengthening public schools, pursuing ways to bring affordable healthcare to all, legislating fair immigration policies, and revitalizing local economies. During my long professional career as an educator, I have learned how to bring people together to find solutions for challenging problems, and I would put those skills to good use as a legislator.

I’m asking for your vote to serve as a strong, progressive voice fighting for the well-being of our communities. I will serve with honesty and integrity.
