Climate Change

If elected, I will make climate change action a priority. I believe that we are already seeing the effects of climate change, and they constitute a grave threat to the social and economic well-being of our citizens. First, I would join the State Legislators United for Climate Action. This group is specifically for state legislators who want to collaborate and coordinate across state and party lines to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve public health, and create clean energy jobs. I would also work with Washington state groups like Climate Impacts Group, who integrate research with stakeholder engagement to identify climate-related informational needs for planners, policymakers, non-governmental organizations, and others.
I am a strong proponent of providing incentives to people who purchase and drive plug-in and all-electric vehicles and of increasing the number of electric vehicle charging stations. I have been driving an electric car since 2013, so I’m familiar with the benefits and challenges of owning an electric vehicle.
Many other actions can help our state mitigate the effects of climate change, including incentivizing alternative energy development, building partnerships that bring green solutions to Washington state’s urban and rural areas, and promoting STEM classes in our schools.
